Madison Avenue Rolls Out Welcome Carpet For Japanese Tourists And Shoppers
New York, NY (PRWEB) September 8, 2009 -- For the first time ever in New York City, the Madison Avenue Business Improvement District (BID) (http://www.madisonavenuebid.org/new/default2.asp) is organizing a targeted promotional program for Japanese visitors who are in New York during Japan's Autumn Golden Week, which will take place on September 19-27, 2009. Golden Week, a series of national holidays, is a busy vacation and travel season in Japan, and traditionally a busy time for U.S. retailers who cater to Japanese visitors.
Sixty retailers, hotels, galleries and restaurants on Madison Avenue (http://www.madisonavenuebid.org/new/locationmap.asp?action=locationMap&ThePCatID=6&ThePID=41) will participate in the Autumn Golden Week promotion with special offers, special shopping hours that include salespeople conversant in Japanese, discounted hotel room rates, and gifts with purchase (see complete list below). The BID is also setting up a Madison Avenue Autumn Golden Week Information Center, located at Ito En, 822 Madison Avenue, between East 68th and 69th Streets, (212-988-7111).
"We are pleased that so many of our businesses have signed on to participate in Autumn Golden Week," said Matthew Bauer, the President of the Madison Avenue BID. "This is a great incentive for Japanese tourists who are coming to New York during this traditional travel week to stay and shop on Madison Avenue. At the same time, it is a great opportunity for our local retailers to take advantage of the influx of Japanese tourists."
This will be the first marketing program in the U.S. that results from the Madison Avenue BID's partnership with the Marunouchi District and the Mitsubishi Estate in Japan. The Marunouchi District (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marunouchi) is Tokyo's central business district and financial center, and the real estate in the Marunouchi District is managed by the Mitsubishi Estate.
To promote this program, the Madison Avenue BID has partnered with Morris Visitor Publications -- publishers of IN New York & Where New York to create a special Japanese-language Golden Week brochure featuring offers provided by participating businesses. The brochures will be distributed to hotel concierges and at the Official NYC Information Center. The BID is also working with NYC & Company to distribute the brochure to tour operators.
